چکیده

The diffusion of wideband satellite services, especially in the field of digital TV broadcasting and/or interactive multimedia, suggests the adoption of spectrally-efficient high-level modulation techniques in future satellite transmission standards. It is known that such modulations suffers from nonlinear distortion due to amplification with on-board (nonlinear) high-power amplifiers, so that countermeasures are to de adopted in this respect. The aim of this contribution is to investigate the possibility to adopt a suited mixture of adaptive data predistortion (DP) at the transmitter and adaptive nonlinear equalization (NLE) at the receiver to counteract nonlinear distortion at best. In particular, we show that the sensitivity to nonlinear distortion of 16QAM and 64QAM is greatly reduced by clever use of both techniques, and that such an arrangement provides non-negligible (though smaller) performance improvement when using the optimized 16APK constellation recently introduced by ESA, and its extended 64-point version.

Data Predistortion for Nonlinear Satellite Channels

Power amplifiers, an integral component to most wireless communication systems, are inherently nonlinear devices that introduce out-of-band spectral regrowth and constellation degradation to the amplifier output. One solution is to operate in a highly backed-off state to achieve quasi-linear performance. Operating in this region requires a higher-saturated power rating for a given output power ...

Bandwidth-constrained digital pre-compensation technique for multi-carrier satellite communications

A wide variety of imperfections impact end-to-end performance in multiple-carrier per transponder transparent satellite links. Analysis of the link architecture leads to identification of the sources and characteristics of distortion experienced by a typical multi-carrier signal. This paper introduces a new remote pre-compensation technique that takes this analysis into account to compensate fo...

DVB-S2 modem algorithms design and performance over typical satellite channels

In this paper we propose a design of the main modulation and demodulation units of a modem compliant with the new DVB-S2 standard (Int. J. Satellite Commun. 2004; 22:249–268). A typical satellite channel model consistent with the targeted applications of the aforementioned standard is assumed. In particular, non-linear pre-compensation as well as synchronization techniques are described in deta...

Friction Compensation for Dynamic and Static Models Using Nonlinear Adaptive Optimal Technique

Friction is a nonlinear phenomenon which has destructive effects on performance of control systems. To obviate these effects, friction compensation is an effectual solution. In this paper, an adaptive technique is proposed in order to eliminate limit cycles as one of the undesired behaviors due to presence of friction in control systems which happen frequently. The proposed approach works for n...
